“On Cue” explores the story of two individuals, Alex and Joey, as they play a game of pool at their college campus. After shooting the eight ball into the pocket and losing, Joey goes to pick it up, but to his surprise it has morphed into a magic eight ball. We chose to use the German expressionism style for the final scene. This is reflected in sharp, highly stylized lighting on Joey and the blue tint added to the ending scene. His acting style is dramatic and theatrical, and the set design is eerie. The entire script idea is based around German expressionism because of the fear and paranoia the final scene brings.
“Attuned To You” is a romantic comedy film between Alex Avery, an antique restorer, and Mandy Miller, an amateur musician. The two meet one another during a fairly awkward interaction in Alex’s shop, but their relationship soon flourishes into something beautiful. This project was created entirely within 48 hours for a film festival at MSUM. It was challenging to complete, but we are satisfied with Vox Opus' first ever film.
These animations were all made with the intent to learn Adobe After Effects. Each tackles a slightly different skillset and helped us learn the software better each and every time. A big part of our company is experimenting; learning new techniques, trying new things, and always pushing ahead of the status quo. These animation projects taught us something new for each one, furthering our goal of telling stories and defying the silence.
